MMS Cabin and signMission Mountain School began operations on October 1, 1990 with a deeply rooted founding philosophy and a dream. It was our belief that teaching adolescents and families how to solve a problem is a better and more useful service than solving the problems for them.

This dream led us to create a comprehensive residential education program to service the need for quality alternative education and address the complex problems of contemporary young women.

Relative to other therapeutic schools and residential programs, Mission Mountain School is distinct in several areas. MMS is unique in that it is small, individualized and family based.

Relationships among the staff and students are close and personal, and our student population is small, usually about thirty students. The small size of MMS, 24-26 students, is integral to what we do. We have no desire to grow into a large program because our belief is that this would only compromise the integrity of the services we provide.

We are fully accredited by the Pacific Northwest Association of Independent Schools (PNAIS), and by the Northwest Association of Accredited Schools (NAAS). Founded in 1941, PNAIS is a professional organization serving independent elementary and secondary schools in the northwest, with 85 member schools. NAAS was founded in 1917, and accredits schools, colleges and universities all througout the northwest. We are also full members of the National Association of Therapeutic Schools and Programs (NATSAP). NATSAP was founded in 1999 to serve as a national resource for therapeutic programs and professionals working within the therapeutic industry.
